Here it comes, my Momfession of the year: I AM THE LAZIEST MOM YOU’VE EVER MET!
In light of the fact that I have dedicated my current existence to producing an educational product, I may have given you the wrong impression.
Here it comes, my Momfession of the year: I AM THE LAZIEST MOM YOU’VE EVER MET!
Feels great to put that out there. I’m not entirely ashamed of the fact either, to be honest. Lazy is my superpower and has proved incredibly useful and empowering throughout my life. In the process of launching the cards, however, I was actually worried that all of these amazing mamas that I am so passionate about helping might be a lot more dedicated to their families than I am.
I was so focused on hiding my ‘dirty little secret’ that it took a while to realise what was right in front of me.
I was worried you might think ‘well, who is she to give me advice on teaching my kid when she doesn’t even put in an hour of teaching every day?’… or something along those lines, you get the idea. I was so focused on hiding my ‘dirty little secret’ that it took a while to realise what was right in front of me.
You guys are all in the same boat! We all work so hard to keep our families functioning and run ourselves down trying to get our kids to thrive. Sure, some amazing women really do keep their houses in a less embarrassing state than mine, they dedicate time to teaching their children and they never ‘forget’ to brush their kid’s teeth. I’m proud of those women and I’m proud of you too.
I’m proud of all of us who’ve spent 20 minutes digging through a tangled mess of crafts rejects only to have our little ones leave the table covered in paint after 2 minutes of finger painting. I’m proud of all of us who’ve wondered whether we were the reason our little one still couldn’t name colours or count to 10. I’m proud of all of us who would rather amputate a toe than try to wrangle up our toddlers for an educational game full of rules and instructions.
This method is about SEEING each other. Seeing the way your toddler moves, watching his face light up, bringing her into a fit of giggles.
We are amazing and let me tell you why I am proud that lazy is my superpower. It’s responsible for this incredible product! All we have to do is toss a few cards onto the floor and start with the basic method: moving towards the cards. Run to blue, put your nose on the firetruck, sit on the triangle.
The rest will come later when you’re ready to explore with your little one. Then you can send him skipping around the corner while you ‘hide’ the cards or you can give him a basket of items to place on the matching cards. The options are endless and we have all the inspiration you need.
Sure, your mini will pick up concepts and learn big stuff along the way, but this is about more than that. This is about SEEING each other. Seeing the way your toddler moves, watching his face light up, bringing her into a fit of giggles. This is a gateway into his world and it really is the source of the easiest mom wins on the market. They’re also beautiful, so that you have one less eyesore scattered around your living room. They’re eco-friendly, they honour diversity, they’re the product of mompreneurs, they’re made in the Netherlands. So yes, I am fiercely proud of what I’ve achieved – and I’m grateful to my superpower for opening the door.
Long live the lazy mom!
